I tell him that I would like to speak with colleagues I actually dont know, to understand their job/tasks/processes, for me and for them too: he organize some calls. As you can imagine, a place like mine has all kind of tech and related processes: dbms from mysql to mongodb, linux, vm, windows server, sas, sap, java, javascript, R, Go, git, change management, service desk, node.js, parallel computing, mobile apps, assets management, sort of hybrid cloud, software distribution, batch management, big data, dmz, firewall, wired and wifi networks, unix, datawarehouse of any sorts. Speaking with my grand boss about it (was not easy) I asked me where I would like to work: lot of people are leaving IT for different reasons here, so I think he prefers to keep me somewhere instead of let me go. Less application level, more infrastructure one less users, system owners, business processes, outsourcers. ![]() I need to change, and I would see something more related with networks, Os, servers. I'm rusty and I'm "far behind" the actual world (I dont write serious code since 15 years or more.), but I think I can run again, hopefully filling the gap, maybe part of it. So, in this months I evaluate my situations: I'm under 40 I want to see and learn more, I dont dislike studying new things: technology I work with are old (someone says: confortable), not interesting I thought about what I would do in the next 10 years (new version of same processes and softwares?), about my role (it will not change, unless I move to manager and less technical roles) I tested myself building a little homelab, from putting openWrt into a router, to config WireGuard, Openmediavault, some containers and servers. I'm good, very good at this job, it doesn't require so much effort, business people asks to have me in the projects. That is, a tipical approach in the PS you may know. My main tasks should be related with the management of the contract aspects, specifing (technical) requirements such as the business does with theirs. Please note that the so called "dirty" parts of IT tasks are done by consultants or - generally speaking - outsourcers suppliers: they know the product they sell and configure they write the code. I asked to change type of job/role in the organization. After almost 15th years as a business analyst / system integrator / IT project manager / problem&ticket solver. I work in the public sector (PS), almost 10k employees, and I am an "IT engineer". Any insight is appreciated! to change job/role and they accepted: I can choose more or less what I want, but I dont know what to choose :O! Suggestions? Hi, I've seen in the past that this kind of threads are posted here and are useful, so do I. My inkling is that the passive display adapters are the root issue, however the users are giving me breadcrumbs to go on as far as details go for the when and where and the circumstances. We’re using a combination of Microsoft USB-C to HDMI adapters and C2G Mini DisplayPort to HDMI passive adapters for the docks that are not Type-C docks. Issues with what the users described as “flickering” which I believe means something akin to a refresh rate or text scaling issue combined. We have a client who has about 60 endpoints with roughly 2/3’s of them experiencing the same issues: One or both of the displays not coming back from sleep or startup and the dock needing to be power cycled, and/or the Type-C adapters needing to be reseated. apologies for the grammer, english is not my native tongue Surface Dock Issues Have any of you experienced numerous display issues related to the new generation of Microsoft Surface Dock 2’s with USB-C outputs for video and specifically the Surface Laptop 3’s with dual displays. doesnt have exposure to aws) or stay on my current and study+get certifief for aws then apply afterwards. My goal in the future is to be solution architech or devops. i am not sure if it is ok to go to that path or just self study aws and take some certs then apply as aws engr or cloud engr. ![]() My goal is to learn Azure admin (all of it) or AWS (which i dont have any experience with) i am getting interview for azure administrator. Now, i am planning to study or apply for another position if someone will take a chance of me. i have azure access but only for AAD and user/group administration. ![]() i mostly handle client base issue with 365 (not allowed to touch the infra side of it) and have limited access to servers. the problem i have with my current co.is i got stuck already. i have certification for azure fundamentals and ms 365 teams associate. most of the infra i handled is MSP though i would say that my strong point is microsoft 365. started as tech support-helpdesk-microsoft 365 support-system admin and my current now is remote desktop support. Cloud Beginner: AWS or AZURE? For context: I been working as a remote tech for about 10 years now.
